From behind piles and piles of fabric

Holy Poo Nuggets Batman, have I been busy sewing and growing a pile of fabulous clothes!!

It all began because my family has a long line of pack rats!  NOT hoarders mind you, it's all crafty project items we pack away.  My Grandmother told me, while sifting through her craft room, how her mother used to keep any scraps of string on spindles for any future use.  I looked around her craft room and saw similarities to mine.  Piles of random and abstract items of crafting for future projects that pile so high, you'll never finish them all before you replenish the empty space.  My mom, her daughter, has similar filled spaces and rooms... well a barn full!  I found myself loading ten boxes of fabric from my Grandmothers craft room to my Parents truck to head back home to Florida.  I had just recently taught myself to sew.  A brand new Fashion Mate Singer Sewing Machine came along with the boxes of fabric that dated from semi-recently to fabrics my Grandmother had from her pack rat Mother.

So here I am with no room in my home for these piles of fabrics so I cut patterns, I make piles, and I sit at the machine pushing through ideas.  My idea began with Florida wear.  Florida is hot as vacationing on Venus...  and I want clothes that are simple, comfortable, sexy, and most of all refreshing to the Florida atmosphere!  Usually that means mid-drifts and short shorts which not all ladies feel so comfortable in.  I, as such a lady, decided how about loose but decent lengthed shorts; open backs and no sleeve shirts; simple skirts...  and so forth.  My brain, my scissors, and my new sewing machine is devouring fabrics of generations to create unique and one of a kind garments in a Florida style.

Complete with fancy shorts, open back shirts, jeans turned to skirts and shirts ready for the SUMMER!  Oh snap, not to mention clothing for men such as tank tops, button up shirts, and shoe lace draw string shorts!!  Sizes vary from around zeros to plus sizes.  They are all measured by inches and all shorts are draw strings so the available size varies.  The more they fit, if that makes sense!

And in conclusion, I will be having a Fashion Show in March, Friday the 13th, my lucky day!  There will be art, fashions for the body, home, and garden and my friends' organic lye soap Moxie Soap Co.  There is a door charge and tickets for sale.  The tickets are $10 each and you get 15% off all purchases at the show.  At the door it's $5 and no discount... HOWEVER all clothes are about half the price they will be available for on MOPEs website after the show.  15% of the ticket and door sales goes straight to the venue, The Space.  50% of the rest goes to helping me create a bipolar retreat which is a whole other blog... which will be done and linked consecutively.  Plenty of more awesomeness about the show is found at 'We All Got Issues a MOPEn Fashion Show'.

I hope the turnout is worth the work, but either way the clothing I've created has blown my mind!  It's a glorious thing to go from a rectangle of fabric to a shirt, skirt, shorts...  the possibilities are endless.  I wish we all simply created things to exchange with each other.  Damn the man, save the individual but still community empire!!  hah.  inside joke... with myself...  someone might get it.  and that makes it all worth it!

18 Things this Highly Creative Person Does

A friend shared this article with me on Facebook a little bit ago.  It's called "18 Things Highly Creative People Do Differently" by Carolyn Gregoire for the online Huff Post.  Check it out, it's pretty interesting, whether you are a creative person or (especially) if you have to deal with creative persons and don't quite understand them.

After you read that, here is a confirmation and exampling rebuttal to the article by Sam Myers, the Executive Pink Elephant of MOPE Designs.  (This might just explain a little more about MOPE.)

* they daydream: non stop, in fact if i'm not listening, this is why!
* they observe everything: yes esp those things we see people doing when they think no one is looking.  those are my favorites - proves the power of thought.
* they work the hours that work for them: hence why i hate working for others - on their time!
take time for solitude: these are my leave me the hell alone moments, always good to surround myself with ONLY nature.
* they turn life's obstacles around: no wonder people see me as less sympathetic to other's situations, because to me i see what they gained, how it can be created into something new; sadness is always the best creative fluxes.
* they seek out new experiences: it's a must, see previous response.
* they fall up: this explains the feeling i get after getting knocked down, i thought it was a revenge effect that becomes personal to my success without hateful revenge part (the well i'll show them by becoming a millionaire and live by ONLY my OWN rules!).
* they ask the big questions: curiosity got the cat, and me, and every moment; i wanna know why, who, where but from an inside point of view that comes from only the person involves.
* they people-watch: this references the previous observer but it was def my favorite time in college; just sit somewhere and watch people, their moods, their interactions, the accidents, or swift maneuvers.
* they take risks: i'm starting to see how they all relate; curiosity and need for experience to feel as though you're in a daydream pushes one to take adventurous risks, to be bold enough to say, "i just wanna live."
* they view all life as opportunity for self-expression: shiiiiiiit whether its a fight with my man, moments of boredom, or sharing ideas it all stems from my own self expression; but i figured this was universal.
* they follow their true passions: side effects of everything previous; i want therefore i live, i fail therefore i live, i am passionate therefore i am alive.
* they get out of their own heads: i had to read this to confirm what it meant; from observing and people watching, from daydreaming of futures and therefore orchestrating occurrences between people; from this practice the ability to put myself in others' shoes has become almost too easy (but people can always still surprise me).
* they lose track of time: duh, think of all the bullshit we have going on from all of this, from ALL OF THIS! ;)
* they surround themselves with beauty: luckily there's beauty in everything, even the ugly and wicked, you just have to look through a twisted view; but yeah if you saw my house it's filled with colors, nature, creativity, and toys.
* they connect the dots: i think we can agree, this has been shown (which would've been a great ender but alas).
* they constantly shake things up: well i'm not one to sit in boredom and let that happen for others; plus a good shake followed by rattle and roll is always good for the soul.
* they make time for mindfulness: with how much crazy our brain contain, ones brain requires rectitude or it gets phucked ups.

Like a pre-wired computer our minds are full of potential, personality, habits, and incredibly a whole lot more.  It seems funny to classify them but as one creative mind, I concure with these creative person habits!  Question is, what do you do differently than us?

THIS might help...

Getting it all done on schedule... so far... hopefully!

After working non-stop all week, last week... Sunday I cleaned, I rested, and I prepared myself to work non-stop this week!

So here's the progress:

I spent a whole evening making these "pinatas" only to find that paper towels NEVER make for good paper mache pinatas!  The just bend on impact.  After figuring out how to make working pinatas... we thought, what could we do with these?!  And walla, found a perfect decor pieces that light up!

Here's our official pinatas!  Much more apt to break, as long as you can hit them!

To see the rest, you'll have to come out Saturday!!! Or stay tuned... more to come... .possibly.  muahahahaha!!!

I'm horrible with social media

It appears I can't keep this thing up to date for the life of me but today I try again to make it a habit!

There's a lot of things we've been doing at MOPE so instead of updating you on what you missed, I'll share with you what we got going on!

1. Website - we got merch up for sale.  I bypassed getting any professional and slowly created it myself.  It will be always growing and hopefully shrinking (which means sales).  There's some Pink Elephant profiles up.  There's event a calender in Your Creativity section.  Trust me it seems like nothing but when you know only the graphics side of creating websites, having a calender with links is a small but large accomplishment!  Looks like I might become the professional after all is said and done.  PLEASE if you do stop by the site, don't hesitate to let us know what you think, ANY errors/missing links, suggestions, praise, cursing... well  everyone needs both sides of criticism.

2.  MOPEs Annual Halloween Festival - 2nd year running.  This will be quite larger than last year which means 10 times the work.  But I got this...  making pinatas, collecting fishbowls, sewing tiny brains, designing and spooktacular backdrop...  oi...  I got this!  I GOT THIS!!  Because I have amazing help!!!  Pink Elephants are the best help a small business owner with a huge overflowing plate could get!!  From a pie eating contest, a pun battle (whaaat?! you know we always do something different) to punch and edibles, games and prizes it's going to be something NO ONE should miss!  There will EVEN be professional make up artists to face paint and make someone's costume go from, "oh you're a zombie, right." to "holy shit,  i seriously thought you were a fracking ZOMBIE!  gees..."

3.  Herb Pillows! - we brought our first Herb pillows to the Holistic Festival we went to a month or two ago and they were a hit!  A yoga studio local to Orlando has asked us to sell our pillows in the studio!  So in November we will have our herb pillow babies (because while making them Pink Elephant Literary Manager Glo couldn't stop referring to them as babies...  bc in your arms they feel like a cute little baby.  and WE made em, they are our babies, especially the elephant ones!) for sale in a yoga studio!  We'll announce all the details in November.  Until then we are sewing, we are stuffing, we are mixing herbs!  And in case you are lost on the term herb pillow - it is our new project, we created three different recipes (Muscle Therapy, No Stress, and Get Well) to put into a rice filled pillow of assorted sizes.  They are used by either microwaving or freezing for warm/cold compress.  They are magical - headaches, cramps, soreness, feels like heaven in pain world with these babies!

4.  Designing the next Art Show - it's been a while since we put on an art show and we got a great new idea.  $5 art show and with the entry fee you get to choose a painting to keep.  The art is no bigger than 5"x5" but well worth the $5.  If you want more than your guaranteed piece, no problem, the rest are also $5.  Our goal is to have as many as 500 tiny art pieces for sale!  It's a great challenge to the Pink Elephants and great for holiday shopping for our fans!  This'll be in late November.

So these are just our BIG projects in the works.  Not to mention how many projects we do individually, in groups, we all work, we are all crazy, and we all still manage to make time to have fun!!  So just a piece of the life of a Pink Elephant!!

I promise, I will try my best to post weekly if not more with pictures on our progress, our craze, our MOPE!!

A new Trip for MOPE

We're putting in motion a hopefully brilliant idea.  We're gonna acquire an RV and looking to go on a creative tour hopefully in March.
Just launched a fundraiser on Indiegogo to help raise the funds.  Dave and Sam made a short stop action video to show a brief outline of our trip.  Haha.
But in reality looking to go up the East Coast for our first trip.  In January we're gonna start booking some spots, planning out the details, and getting confirmations from which Pink Elephants will be able to go on the tour.
Thinking about creating some unique ideas for the shows.  Maybe some art mixed with some performances.  Gonna get on the ball with that!  Send us any ideas on facebook.

When there aren't venues we'll just open the RV and prop up a gorilla creative art show!

so check out the fundraiser here.

Hard work but good creative fun :)

It's hard work to keep up with life but as we play along the game always gets easier at times.

The Art Crawls in The Milk District have been fantastic!  A cold front (however long it may last) allows for those winter clothes we keep hidden in Florida.  Creative juices are churning...

with that said, what do yah think of the new mugs we been working on?

Much more to come.  This cool weather gets the blood pumping, the heart beating, and creative energies stirring!

These beauties and more will be available for you to take home for hot cocoa's and coffees soon on our new website OR at the next Art Crawl, November 9th.
